§ 006. Convert Hatanaka Compressed CRX to RINEX

We have Hatanaka Compressed RINEX file. It is very common format for observables storing on servers especially public CORS networks. It allows to shrinks RIENX a lot a save disk space.
However, not all PPK software and utilities support CRX format. Sometimes it is needed to be converted to standard (uncompressed) RINEX.

Convert Compact RINEX (CRX) to RINEX4

CRX file to be used in the example is downloaded from
BKG Data & Products Repository.
For instance, let it be file ABPO00MDG_R_20240440000_01D_30S_MO.crx
Download GZ archive on your PC and unpack it. In result, we should have in hands file ABPO00MDG_R_20240440000_01D_30S_MO.crx of CRX format.
It is not human readable (except header). Epoch data are packed in specific form.
RTools online service will be used for converting CRX to RINEX.
Choose Modify RINEX file option at first step of processing Wizard. Than press Next button.
Next specify CRX file to be converted and edited (modified). You could select RINEX version to be converted to as well as filter GNSS, do data decimation etc.
File uploading and processing starts. It may take some time, please wait. Result RINEX file is ZIPped on server side and automatically downloaded once ready. If it is unzipped,
we may see RINEX observation file w/ name abpo0440.24o.

If one would like to get statistic about RINEX or any other type of file, WAY
online service could be used. If converted file is uploaded into WAY, we may get idea about receiver location, available GNSS, Satellites and signals.

Now we know how to convert Hatanaka compressed RINEX (CRX) to standard RINEX w/ help of KernelSat RINEX Tools (RTools) online service.
Also, statistic with information about receiver, its location and available measurements may be generated by WAY service.
